In my opinion the Mexican-American war change the United States, because it gave the U.S. alot more territory for one. If that war wouldn't have happened than the U.S. would have been been more of a central and eastern nation in the Americas. Spanish, and Natives in this area also wouldn't have added their traditions to the American culture.
The United States would be alot smaller and immigration into the U.S. from Mexico would have a different stance than it does now. Maybe it wouldn't be as much of a problem or maybe it would be a bigger problem.
It wasn't a fair fight, because Mexico was having their own problems with identity and the U.S. had more power to win.

Mexico failed to recognize Texas’ independence for several years and when Texas was admitted into the Union tensions escalated and thus war began. Obviously, the Mexican-American War coming to an end with both sides signing the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo dramatically altered the United States. Mexico gave up 55 percent of its land to the United States (the entire Southwestern portion of the United States today) and in a vain attempt to show that there was no hard feelings U.S. gave Mexico 15 million dollars. If the War had never occurred it is hard to say if Mexico would have ever recognized Texas’ independence but if they would have Texas would be a part of the U.S. and the Southwestern portion of what is now the United States would most likely still belong to Mexico. My view or opinion is that at least the United States gave Mexico money for the land they received, though the cash amount was small for the amount of land the United States gained; upon winning the war United States could have forced Mexico to surrender its land over to becoming United States territory with nothing given in return. I don’t know enough to say whether this was a fair fight or not, but two things seems relatively true 1) Mexico asked for the war by taking the first initiative in fighting and 2) The United States had a greater war force and was greedy over land.

The Mexican-American War changed the Landscape of the United States in a number of ways. Firstly, the United States waged total warfare during the battle of Veracruz in the Mexican American War. Total warfare takes war to a whole new level because it is not only targeting the enemy in combat, but it also affects civilians and their ability to sustain their lifestyle. Secondly, the United States changed physically. The territories gained from the outcome of the war lead to the completion of the United States dream of Manifest Destiny. It was the United States "God Given Right" to stretch from coast to coast and the Mexican American War made this dream a reality.
The United States would be vastly different had this War not occurred. For one we would not have control over the Southwest and we might even be considered Mexican rather than American. The real gain by the United States though was the diverse cultures that had settled the Southwest. The Southwest is full of a very long and interesting history. For instance this year we as New Mexicans celebrate the centennial for statehood which is a great feat but you must also know that this year Santa Fe Celebrates four hundred years of being a city. The United States gained a huge amount of territory and an even larger amount of history.
As far as fairness goes, the war at first did not seem so one-sided. The Mexican Army had much more experience than the United States Army which could have been an advantage during this war, but the technology of the United States was much better which lead to a sure victory. The United States military had junior inexperienced leaders in charge of the War effort while Mexico had decorated Veterans. Unfortunately Mexico was in a state of unrest and had three different Presidents over the span of the War which could not be much help when it comes down to winning the war. The greatest advantage that the United States had though was better weapons being fired with gunpowder that was 5x better than that of the Mexicans. So, it turned out to be unfair as the war waged on but at the beginning it seemed to be a decent match up.

I personally believe that the United States did change due to the Mexican American War. The United States grew in size and power because of the war. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that was signed in 1848 gave the United States the land that is now known as the states of New Mexico, California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, southwestern Colorado, and southwestern Wyoming. The United States paid Mexico 15 million dollars for the rights to these lands.

If the Mexican-American War had not have happened the United States would be much smaller. The whole southwest might not be a part of the United States. Slavery might still be allowed. There is so much that could be different.

As far as if the Mexican-American War was a fair fight is a tough question to answer. The end result might suggest that the fight was not fair but at the beginning it did appear to be. Mexico started the war because it did not accept that Texas wanted its independence from Mexico. It began as fair as most wars do. Although Mexico did seem to have the better reason for fighting, it did not believe in slavery. The end result of most wars is that there is usually one side that is victorious, in the case of the Mexican-American War it was the United States who prevailed.

I think it did because
The mexican-american war impacted the united states “socially” the texas war of independence really showed (again) how powerful america was and what the firmly believe in. It also put a strain in the united states and mexicans relationship. After this was texas was an independent country and economically changed how texians live because they were no longer controlled by santa anna. The mexican-american war socially changed the status of america because it showed the westward expansion and the manifest destiny that went all over the world. Also it changed it’s relationship and alliances with other foreign countries and showed that texas stands up for themselves The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that was signed in 1848 gave the United States the land that is now known as the states of New Mexico, California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, southwestern Colorado, and southwestern Wyoming. This economically helped america
Because the united states of america grew in power and in land size.
The war also politically changed america because since it was an independent country it needed a new “ruler” because they were no longer controlled by mexico. The Mexican-American war change the United States, because it gave the U.S. a lot more territory, which led to westward expansion. The United States would be a lot smaller, and immigration into the U.S. from Mexico would have a different stance than it is now. The Mexican-American War also changed the Landscape of the United States.
